LMDC President Kevin M. Rampe Breaks Ground for Reconstruction of Sara D. Roosevelt Park Field

Lower Manhattan Development Corporation President Kevin M. Rampe joined Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Council Member Alan Gerson, and students from I.S. 131 to break ground for the reconstruction of the Hester & Canal Street Field in Sara D. Roosevelt Park. The nearly $3 million project will create a number of enhancements to the park including replacing the asphalt field with synthetic turf, as well as the creation of new paths, benches, greenery, and lighting.

The funding for the improvements planned for Sara D. Roosevelt Park were announced last May by Governor George E. Pataki and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg when the LMDC committed $25 million to rejuvenate parks and to create new green spaces throughout Lower Manhattan. This project, which focuses on reconstructing sitting areas, public plazas, and playgrounds south of Canal Street, was implemented to maximize recreational opportunities for Lower Manhattan neighborhoods and communities.
