THE LOWER MANHATTAN DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES PUBLIC UNVEILING OF FREEDOM TOWER
Governor George E. Pataki and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg unveiled the design of the Freedom Tower today in a presentation by architects David Childs and Daniel Libeskind and developer Larry Silverstein. The tower will rise to the symbolic height of 1, 776 feet and will serve as an iconic structure as a testament to our nation's strength and resilience in the aftermath of September 11th.
In essence, the tower will contain the same programmatic elements that existed in the original Trade Center but the new design will also propose an innovative mix of architecture, structure and mechanical systems. The building will contain 2,600,000 square feet of office space on approximately 60 stories with state-of-the-art life safety systems and will far exceed the requirements of the New York City Building Code.
The Freedom Tower will redefine the New York City's skyline and embody our glorious rebirth.
